The Basic Cause of Acne and Why Most Acne Treatments Don’t Work

Article by Jennifer Carlson

Too many acne sufferers believe that the key to healing their skin is by treating it with over the counter acne products or even prescription acne medications. Unfortunately, many find that these products just don’t work over the long term. Many people report fantastic short term successes using these products, but ultimately find that once they stop using the products on their skin, their acne returns. Sometimes their skin even seems to build some sort of resistance while they’re using the product, and their acne returns, even though they apply their acne treatment faithfully.

The cause of acne is not simply dirty or greasy skin, nor is it caused by eating too much junk food or chocolate, the most basic cause of acne is hormonal. This is the primary reason that acne is predominantly suffered by teenagers, but it’s also the reason why millions of people beyond their teenage years still get acne.

It took me a long time to understand that my acne was caused by factors inside my body, but once I did, I realized that all the acne medications and treatments I’d used in the past were basically useless simply because they only treated the symptoms. Unfortunately, most doctors and dermatologists don’t seem to recognize this fact (or if they do, they don’t bother to base their treatments around it). They prescribe medication which is often harsh on the skin, and which sometimes has deleterious side effects. Unfortunately, while many of these medications will work for a short time, they won’t provide a long term cure for acne.

It was only when a friend told me about Acne Cured the eBook that the truth behind my the cause of my acne problems became obvious. I bought the book somewhat reluctantly, as over the years I’ve spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on acne treatments, and I was pretty sure there was nothing that I’d learn in a book that I didn’t already know. However, I soon found out I was wrong. At first, I was reluctant to believe some of the information I read, as it went against my current understanding of acne. However, I committed myself to sticking with the program for at least enough time to determine whether or not it was going to work for me.

After one week I noticed an improvement in my skin, and by the time a month had passed I realized I was onto a winner. After just two months following the program, my skin was as good as it has ever been. I finally understood the real cause of acne, and knew how to treat acne at the point where it begins, rather than attempting to cure the symptoms (something that by logic can never truly work). Acne Cured the eBook clearly explains the cause of acne and then gives a real, solid approach to dealing with that acne. It’s not an overnight miracle solution, but it is real and it is permanent. I’m continually grateful that I found this book when I did, and wasn’t afraid to try something different.

The Leading Causes of Acne

Article by Groshan Fabiola

There are many acne solutions, just as there are many acne causes. It is not always known what causes acne for each and every individual, but there are several factors that have been proven to be associated with many acne cases. Dirt has often been thought to be one of the leading causes of acne, but that has actually been largely disproven. While good hygiene is an important part of preventing acne, the blackheads that form are not a result of dirt being stuck in the pores.

It is fairly common knowledge in the medical community that family and genetic history are leading causes of acne, although the acne is often more likely to occur at a certain point in an individual’s life. Most people suffer from the worst acne during puberty when they are going through hormonal changes, although it is still pretty widespread among adults as well. Women go through hormone changes during menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause, and both men and women experienced hormone changes due to stress, for example. There are acne solutions including natural acne products for both adults and teens.

One of the other common causes of acne is inflammation, skin irritation or scratching of any sort, although this will be more temporary. The accumulation of dead skin cells that block or cover pores or bacteria inside the pores are other leading causes for acne, which can be quickly resolved with a good fragrance free acne treatment.

Acne is also often caused by the things that people put in and on their bodies. The use of anabolic steroids, any medication containing lithium, barbiturates or androgens, amphetamines or other similar drugs will cause acne. Exposure to halogens or certain chemical compounds such as Chlorinated dioxins is also linked to certain types of acne.

Some other things that are believed to cause acne include poor diet, lack of certain vitamins and eating foods containing growth hormones. Luckily, there are new acne solutions that are effective for most conditions.

Causes of Acne and to get rid of it

Article by Peter rodrick

Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones on the skin’s oil glands (sebaceous glands), which leads to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits. Acne lesions usually occur on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Nearly 17 million people in the United States have acne, making it the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring, permanent scarring, which can be upsetting to people who are affected by the disorder.

There are many myths about what causes acne. Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed, but research has shown that foods seem to have little effect on the development and course of acne in most people. Another common myth is that dirty skin causes acne; however, blackheads and other acne lesions are not caused by dirt.

There are a few causes for acne, but hormones are the number one reason. There are many dermatologists that stress diet; sexual activity and other lifestyle factors do not cause acne. But, some parents and magazines keep following the saying that eating fatty foods such as chocolates, French fries and pizza will cause you to have acne.

Early in the teen years is when most people start experiencing signs of acne, due to puberty. For pregnant women, it is because the body is changing, again hormones. Acne is also inherited. Severe cases known as cystic acne usually come from heredity.

When the skin surface and its pores are blocked, the pores are described as being occluded. Factors that may cause occlusion include certain cosmetics, oils, greases, and hairsprays. Hats, helmets and pads used in sports may also contribute to this problem as can humidity, sweating and the prolonged effect of contact with damp clothing.

The exact cause of acne is unknown, but doctors believe it results from several related factors. One important factor is an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne.

You really can get rid of acne, naturally. How? By learning about the causes of acne and how to rebalance the body. By understanding that applying harsh chemicals to the skin can actually exacerbate the skin’s natural oil production and make acne worse. To really get rid of acne, you need to equip yourself with information about hormones, food, skin care products, dehydration, yeast and antibiotics. By listening to your body you will find the long-term path to clearer skin.

Two Causes of Acne

Article by Martin Chambers

Acne problems can be treated, but only if you understand what cause them in the first place. They always say that if you want to combat something, then you have to know what causes it. This applies to every disease known to man, even relatively simple conditions like acne. Prevention is certainly better than cure.

The problem with Acne is that most people don’t know exactly what causes it. They blame things like chocolate and nuts and working out. The truth is that acne isn’t caused by a single thing alone but by a combination of factors.

How Pimples Are Formed

First, you have to understand how pimples are formed. The whole process mostly takes place underneath a person’s skin – within the pores, to be exact. Inside the pores are sebaceous glands that produce sebum or the oil which keeps your skin moist. Meanwhile, the skin continuously renews itself, and the dead skin cells mix with the natural oils of the skin and then sloughed off evenly to make way for their replacement.

It is when these dead skin cells don’t slough off evenly that the problem begins. In this case, the dead skin cells and the oil form clumps that plug the pores. The plugs formed trap bacteria inside the skin, which the body’s white blood cells attack. The result is a pimple.

What we need to find out is what influences the dead skin cells to slough off unevenly. Understanding what causes acne is important because it helps people avoid choosing an acne treatment regimen that can only be ineffective.

Acne cause #1: Hormones

Acne is caused by hormones. In fact, you’ll notice acne break-outs typically occur in moments when our hormones are raging or unstable.

For most people, the first encounter with acne is when they were just adolescents, and you know that raging hormones characterize adolescence. The other periods in a woman’s life when acne is a common occurrence is during menstruation and pregnancy. Acne is also common when a woman stops taking birth control pills. Birth control pills, to be effective, interfere with the hormonal processes in the body; when a woman stops taking them, the body has to readjust to the normal functioning of its hormones so pimples begin to erupt.

Indeed, hormones, specifically the hormone androgen, are somewhat responsible for the eruption of acne. Androgen over-stimulates the sebaceous glands, thereby increasing the production of sebum. When there is an overproduction of sebum, pores get clogged more easily, thereby leading to the formation of pimples.

Androgen also causes the dead skin cells inside the follicle to shed more rapidly, thereby compounding the problem.

Acne cause #2: Bacteria

When a follicle becomes plugged, the bacteria called Propionibacterium Acnes start to multiply rapidly. P. Acnes bacteria are really just a normal part of the body’s sebum production regulatory system. However, when such bacteria are trapped inside the follicles due to the clogged pores, they release certain chemicals that irritate the skin and thereby induce the white blood cells to attack the bacteria. Inflammation then follows.

It is therefore clear from the above explanation that inflamed acne pustules are really just the body’s reaction to an irritant. Acne can therefore be prevented if the dead skin cells slough off evenly and if your pores are not clogged so bacteria will not be trapped inside. Of course, acne prevention is easier said than done.

The Causes of Acne – And What You Can Do About Them

Article by Andi Allegre

While acne may be a very common occurrence, its causes are still often mired in myth and mystery. Even in this high-tech, digitally connected world, there is still a lot of confusion about what causes pimples and acne. Here’s a rundown of the real acne culprits, and what you can do about them:

Acne Cause #1: Genetics

The predisposition to getting acne is one of those traits that gets handed down from generation to generation. Sad to say, if your parents are particularly pimple-prone then chances are you’ll be like them too. What can you do about it? Nothing, really. You’ll just need to learn how to manage your breakouts so that they do little long-term damage.

Acne Cause #2: Raging Hormones

Pimple breakouts peak right about the age of puberty. That’s because the same surge in hormones that cause changes in a teen’s body trigger acne breakouts too. The chief acne-causing hormone is testosterone. Spikes in testosterone levels cause the skin’s sebaceous glands to make more sebum or oil. This excess sebum tends to combine with dead skin cells which clog the pores and cause pimple breakouts.

In adults, hormone-related acne persists. This is especially true for women who get acne whenever their testosterone levels peak right before menstruation and during pregnancy. Adults who take steroid supplements or are under hormone therapy will also get acne as a side effect. That is why some dermatologists prescribe birth control pills for acne to counteract the effects of testosterone.

Acne Cause #3: Poor Hygiene

Accumulating dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells on your skin will definitely not do wonders for your acne. That is why it is very important to keep your face clean and scrubbed. Use a cleanser for your skin type and thoroughly but gently wash your face at most twice a day. And do try keeping your hands off your face – there’s no better way of transferring bacteria and dirt to your skin than through your hands. Remember: while you can’t do much about your genes or your raging hormones, there is no excuse for poor personal hygiene.

Acne Cause #4: Acne-Causing Foods

Certain types of foods can trigger acne attacks. Chief offenders are so-called high glycemic foods, or food that cause a spike in insulin levels such as white bread and rice, chips, pastries, sweets and soda. It is believed that the spike in insulin triggers a chain of events that lead to an increase in oil production on the skin. Fatty food have also been linked to more hyperactive oil glands.

Instead of eating junk, opt for green leafy vegetables, brightly colored fruits and vegetables, berries, apples, and grapefruit. These are rich in skin-friendly vitamins and nutrients for clearer skin. And don’t forget to drink lots of water too.

Acne Cause #5: Stress

Chronic stress, while generally bad for your body, will wreak havoc on your skin too. That’s because stress hormones have been shown to elevate testosterone levels in the body, which in turn makes your skin oilier and lead to pimple breakouts. Take the time to chill out and relax, and make sure you get enough sleep to keep stress levels (and pimples) in check. There you have it – the top five causes of acne. With this knowledge you can take preventive measures to keep acne at bay. To treat existing acne, you can opt for topical gels and ointments or oral supplements like vitamin B5 to manage your breakouts.

Is Poor Hygiene the Cause of Acne?

Article by Thomas Bjorn

Acne is a troublesome skin problem which can threaten the self esteem of any person at any time in life. More troublesome are the scars caused by acne. Acne may leave you for good but its scars will remain with you forever.

No wonder people feel the way they do when they have acne. It is important for everyone to know the root cause of acne. Acne is mainly believed to be caused by hormonal changes in the body and bacteria on the skin. These are the two most known reasons of acne whereas dirt and poor hygiene is sometimes also held responsible for acne.

In this topic we will discuss about poor hygiene and its relation with acne and try to find that whether poor hygiene is a cause of acne or not.

It is a general statement that dirt or poor hygiene has no relation with causing acne. This statement is true because poor hygiene and acne has been studied by many scientists and found no alarming situation which led to acne due to poor hygiene. Hygiene is important in all cases whether acne or not.

Washing your face at least 2 times a day helps to cleanse your face. It also keeps the dirt off your face and keeps your face fresh and lively. Do not over wash your face as it can cause irritation on the skin. Always wash your face with a mild soap and rinse the soap properly to avoid dryness on skin.

Always use a mild lotion after washing your skin. It is a common misunderstanding that you should not use moisturizers on acne skin. Whereas modern studies have shown that moisturizing your skin after washing it is important to prevent acne.

Hygiene may not be the cause of acne but it certainly helps to get rid of acne and to minimize the hazards of acne. Always take good care of your skin and make sure that you do not neglect the needs of your skin.

5 Important Causes Of Acne

Article by Chris Sokraz

Acne is every common disease worldwide. Many people both women and men get affected by acne. It’s one of the most common chronic skin diseases. Most people who have acne don’t take action until acne becomes a big problem for them. If you have acne, the best thing you have to do is to fight it as soon as possible. One thing that can help you treat acne is, knowing what causes it.

So this article here tries to explain in a clear way what is acne and what causes it. By learning the information bellow you will be able to deal in a better way with acne disease.

Acne is an inflammatory condition of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. It mainly appears on face, neck, shoulders, chest and back. The sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum in order to keep the skin moist and soft.

When people have acne, the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum which mixes with the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin thus leading to clogged pores and acne. Acne is characterized by the presence of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and scars.

Which are the causes that could put you at risk for acne?

1. Genetics: Many times families with history in acne tend to be more prone at acne.
2. Hormones: It’s known that acne tends to affect people in periods like adolescence or pregnancy because in during these the body produces many hormones which can lead to acne. That’s why we see many young men at the ages of 12-20 to face acne due to adolescence and many women at late 20s due to pregnancy.
3. Inappropriate Diet: Wrong feeding habits like irregular hours of eating or excess of sugar etc can lead to more sebum thus leading to acne.
4. Stress: Another cause of acne is stress which except the fact that it affects our general health it may lead to more break outs.
5. Other causes: Except the above there are other factors which are considered as causes of acne like certain medications or chronic constipation.

If you see that some of the above apply at your case, you should be extra careful with your acne treatment. You need to eliminate all the risks that may cause more acne and try to get acne-free as soon as possible. Consult your doctor for medication and begin the treatments I have already mentioned in my articles. The sooner you start the better for you.

Some causes of acne and pimples are:

1. Eating junk foods and fast foods will cause you to have acne and pimples. Try to avoid foods that are loaded with sugar, vegetable oils, and saturated fats. An example of the foods you should avoid or at least cut back on are cookies, cakes, chocolates, fast food burgers and fries, chips, and other junk foods.

These foods tend to spike your insulin levels and cause your hormones to become imbalance.

2. Another cause of acne and pimples is having an oily face. Make sure you wash your face daily. When you have an oily face, your pores tend to become clogged. You want your face to be dry. But, not too dry though. If you already have dry skin, drink plenty of water. That should help you clear your skin.
